Michel FRANçOIS
A door handle is transformed in an object that can be situated between the recognizable and the uncommon.
This process of cultivated metal includes electricity, chrome- and nickel baths and welding, not necessarily in that order. Where in the collaboration with Michel François concerning his light sculpture, the aim was to find a technique that could copy exactly his idea ten times;
we are now doing the exact
opposite: the exploration into production systems that always enable a one-off product. In short, we couldn’t make them the same if we wanted to. .
ABOUT
Born 1956 in Sint-Truiden
Lives and works in Brussels
Far from limiting his work to one discipline, Michel François uses all sorts of materials and media. Through his works, he makes a kind of inventory of the world around us. For this purpose, he uses contrasts; sometimes formal, like convex and concave forms, as well as the full and empty, light and dark, etc.
