Jan VERCRUYSSE

Jan Vercruysse created a knife in collaboration with D&A Lab. A completely handmade object with a stainless steel blade and a handle consisting of two parts made from differently coloured elongated tubes, separated by an oxidized silver ring. Since the ring has to be oxidized, it is impossible to polish the handle after assembly. D&A Lab went in search of the best materials and techniques. Each piece had to be perfectly finished. The glass could neither be blown nor melted. The parts were cut by waterjet from a piece of Czech optical glass. For this project, it was a matter of matching the perfect uniformity of industrially-made objects with the skills of a craftsman. .
