Gert VERHOEVEN

ANDY can be seen as a wig stand that has been enlarged into a sofa. It is an homage to Andy Warhol.
Although Andy Warhol had many different wigs, D&A Lab went for the most iconic one. Each wig is carefully put together with two natural variations of wool, black and white.
Although no real hair was used (but sheepskin), the illusion is perfect. The two sattelite disks on the side can be used as armrests and, with calculated precision, will force you in a diva-like position.

ABOUT

Born 1964 in Leuven
Lives and works in Brusse

“Having an idea. What happens when you have an idea?
Does the physical aspect play a role in having an idea?”
The Belgian artist Gert Verhoeven explores different artistic forms to try and answer this question, which leads to unusual combinations in his work. This questioning of how thought is born thus pushes him to look to drawings, video, sculpture and installations, as though only contact with an original material could provide
him with an answer.
Videos, drawings, photographs, sculptures and installations, the multifaceted work of Gert Verhoeven always contains a provocative dose of humour that appeals to the imagination and the unconscious.
Themes linked to childhood, human relationships and the condition of artists are translated with simple, fun
means that are sometimes close to handicrafts.
