Ann Veronica JANSSENS
The ‘low table’ is intriguing not only because of the light glow distinctive of this specific type of glass, but also by its combination of pure mass and lightness. Each block is structured according to the golden section.
The individuality of each is obtained by cooling melted glass on cold metal.
This creates the ripples and unevenness on the surface. The limit between sublime base, low table or sculpture gets blurred, but the answer may lie in the architectural composition of the work.
ABOUT
Born 1956 in Folkstone (UK)
Lives and works in Brussels
A large part of Ann Veronica Janssens’ work invites the viewer, through sculptures, to consciously experience the constant changes in our environment (or images that we project onto it) as a wonderful experience rather than as something hostile.
A body in space and observation are part of Janssens’ train of thought, in which she combines philosophy with art history.
